France: India’s Golden Globe 2022 race aspirant Tommy circumnavigated Chile’s “Cape Horn”, known as the Everest of sailors. Abhilash Tommy circumnavigated Cape Horn on Saturday. Abhilash Tommy celebrated his achievement by cooking biryani.
For the first time in his ten-year long naval career, Abhilash Tommy conquered Cape Horn. With this, Abhilash became the second sailor among the remaining 4 sailors to circumnavigate Cape Horn. There were 16 people when the match started. The competition started on September 4 last year.
The remaining four participants (Skippers):
The first South African woman, Kirsten Neuscheifer, crossed the cape on the night of the 15th. With this, Abhilash Tommy was able to conquer all the three great capes in the ocean (Cape Lewin in Australia, Cape of Good Hope in South Africa and Cape Horn in Chile) in this Golden Globe Race. With this, Abhilash can now jump to the finishing point of the Golden Globe.
This is also the finishing point of the race which started from the port of Le-Sable Delon in France. Abhilash can reach the finishing point by traveling another 7859 nautical miles (14554 km). Now the two remaining skippers in the race, Michael from Austria (550 miles away) and Herbert Jones from the UK, are to conquer “Cape Horn”. The race, which started on September 4, has now completed 168 days.
Skippers will be able to successfully complete the 30,000-mile Golden Globe race in June 2023. Kirsten Neuscheifer, the first runner-up, covered 155 nautical miles in the last 24 hours, while Abhilash Tomi managed to cover 79 nautical miles.
