What the spectators saw yesterday at the World Cup was literally the burning of Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan batsmen, who came to batting with a target of 357 runs in front of India, were bundled out for just 55 runs by the Indian bowlers. Sri Lanka’s defense ended in just 19.4 overs. Biggest win for India and biggest defeat for Sri Lanka.

The Indian batsmen proved that Sri Lankan captain Kushal Mendis’s decision to win the toss and sent India into bat was wrong. Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer and Ravindra Jadeja shined in front of the crowd who came expecting the firework batting of hitman Rohit Sharma at the Wankhede Stadium. The Wankhede stadium fell silent as Rohit Sharma returned with a clean bowled on the second ball of the first over. Kohli and Gill then took control of the match. As both of them crossed half-centuries, the scoring speed also increased.

Gill was dismissed by Dilshan Madushanga, who was rushing towards the century with huge hits. Captain Kushal Mendis took a catch and dismissed Gill. Gill’s return was 92 runs off 92 balls. Virat Kohli, who scored 88 runs, also returned without a century, leaving the crowd disappointed. While Shreyas Iyer has increased  the score board with big shots, while K.L. Rahul (21 off 19 balls) and Suryakumar Yadav (12 off nine balls) returned quickly. India crossed 300 runs in 45th over. Shreyas Iyer was dismissed in the 48th over but Ravindra Jadeja struck in the final overs to take India to 357.

In reply batting, Sri Lanka lost Nisanga in the very first ball. Nisang could only go to the pavilion on Bumrah’s missile. Ate that, Sri Lanka’s top batsmen were seen sweating to keep up with the fiery balls of Bumrah (1/8) and Siraj (3/16).
